Fringe/Frayed/Fun

Something about Spring gives me a fresh start newness feel - it's always the time of year when I feel most energized. Cherry blossoms begin to bloom, afternoons/evenings in the city become full of life, and it's when all the fun street trends start to emerge. Spring cleaning starts (needs) to happen, and we all wake up from our deep winter hibernations.  I am more than ready to get this Spring/Summer going! Winter in NYC can be pretty painful but this city really does have some of the best warm weather activities (Rooftop rosé anyone?).

The past couple of Spring seasons have been so exciting and fun in the trend world. Everything seems to always work it's way around "The Statement Piece". Who doesn't want to make a statement? Usually accessories get all the attention (hai poms and earrings) but this year it is all about the denim - and it's about time! Denim has always been viewed as a classic basic in my closet. I have invested in a couple of higher priced jeans (Rag and Bone, HudsonAG) and normally I choose darker clean washes. BUT not this season, I am feelin that fringe/frayed trend!

Say hello to statement jeans. As we enter Spring, now is the perfect time for denim to shine! I've noticed that slowly they have evolved from the smallest frayed hems and into downright carpet tassels, and shreds. Which surprisingly I love! Boho chic style and influence from the 70s have been strong season after season (crop tops, off the shoulder tops, flared jeans) and the statement jean fits in perfectly with all of these ideas.
Finally my InstaFame jeans - I could go on and on about them. I found this pair at Forever 21 and I don't think I've ever received so many compliments (and even texts) on a pair of jeans. Unfortunately, this exact pair has sold out but a similar style can be found here. The F21 denim assortment is SO good these days. I have not shopped F21denim before, but under $30 I was like heyyyy what's to lose? The small-large sizing surprisingly fits well, I wasn't sure at first. There is a nice stretch to them and I am a size small. Oh I also saw these at Zara that are a close match too.

Since these are such an amazing price point, I fell hard for this look and I have like 3 pair already (oops). So yes, I promise I do own other jeans - It's just funny that I've probably worn these more within the last month than I've ever worn any of my nicer jeans...typical. The best part I would have to say about these fringe favs is you can still go crazy and mix them with bold printed tops or keep it simple with a plain blouse/tee. I chose the more subtle look with a hint of poms :) Similar styles/ideas are linked at the end if you are looking for a denim update.

Don't want to spend $$$ on this trend? If you are feelin the fringe, think DIY too! I've seen a ton of DIY frayed denim posts. A few how to vids here and here. One of my friends did her own fringe and they came out great.

Ah this week is flying by! I was in TX for boyfriend bday fun and I am SO happy I was able to squeeze in much needed family time as well. Hope you all are having a great week. Let me know if you find any good fringe favs too.
